Poet: Sabrina O’Reilly

If Emily Dickinson had been poor, I could imagine her living life as a hermit, in a little cottage somewhere writing poetry and perhaps teaching or mending for a living, as she turned her thoughts and dreams into poems in her downtime. It’s the fate of most artists, at least until the stone is turned and the world rises to meet them. Sabrina’s studio was the stuff of the imagined life of artists, but not imaginary at all in the long run. Full of light and personal touches, it’s the type of space that’s perfect for the writer by night, teacher by day. And her work - I bought her latest book later and it is all deep thought assigned to small moments, just as light coming through a window and striking a leaf or a painting in just the right way can bear multitudes, can bear legends, whether that legend is Emily Dickinson or a poet working in her home studio after a long day of work.
